Abu Dhabi Expands Investment in Smart and Sustainable Development
Abu Dhabi has announced a major Dh42 billion investment aimed at advancing infrastructure, sustainability, smart mobility and urban development across the emirate. The new initiatives reinforce the UAE capital’s long-term strategy to position itself as a global benchmark for sustainable urban living, innovation and quality of life.According to figures released by the Department of Municipalities and Transport, the emirate continues to accelerate large-scale development projects while expanding public services and community facilities across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra.
Officials stated that the latest investments are part of a broader institutional transformation programme designed to improve operational efficiency, enhance government services and support future population growth.
Major Community Projects Enhance Quality of Life
As part of the emirate’s Lifestyle Strategy, authorities completed more than 60 development projects valued at approximately Dh12 billion. The projects were designed to improve public wellbeing, increase recreational access and strengthen community infrastructure throughout the region.Completed developments include more than 200 parks and sports facilities, alongside 24 schools, 21 mosques and 28 community councils. These projects are intended to support family-oriented communities while promoting healthier and more connected urban environments.
The emirate also expanded its active mobility network with the addition of 120 kilometres of walking tracks and 283 kilometres of cycling lanes. The move aligns with Abu Dhabi’s sustainability goals and efforts to encourage environmentally friendly transportation alternatives.
Authorities confirmed that additional community developments are already planned, including the construction of 16 new parks in the Al Shamkha area.
Urban Expansion Supports Housing Demand
Abu Dhabi’s rapid urban growth continued throughout the year, with the Department of Municipalities and Transport approving nearly 75 million square metres of gross floor area for new developments. The figure represents annual growth of approximately 137 percent.The approved projects include more than 158,000 residential units designated for the real estate market, as well as around 30,000 homes allocated for UAE nationals.
The large-scale housing expansion reflects growing demand for residential properties in Abu Dhabi while supporting long-term demographic and economic growth strategies.
Focus on Sustainable Urban Planning
Officials emphasized that future urban expansion will continue to prioritize sustainable infrastructure, integrated transport systems and environmentally conscious planning standards.The emirate’s urban development strategy aims to balance economic growth with environmental responsibility by increasing green spaces, improving public mobility and expanding smart city capabilities.
Artificial Intelligence Drives Government Transformation
As part of its broader digital transformation strategy, Abu Dhabi introduced the AI-powered “Binaa” platform to streamline regulatory services and accelerate project approvals.The digital system is expected to improve efficiency across construction and infrastructure processes while simplifying interactions between developers, contractors and government authorities.
Authorities also deployed advanced smart tracking systems and AI-enabled cameras throughout the department’s vehicle fleet to enhance operational monitoring and improve service performance.
The adoption of artificial intelligence technologies reflects Abu Dhabi’s ongoing commitment to becoming a leading smart city and innovation hub in the Middle East.
